Common Faults and Maintenance of Diesel Generator Battery
The faults that are easily caused by the generator battery during use are cracks in the casing, cracking of the sealant, burnout of the terminal, vulcanization of the plates, self-discharge or short circuit of the plates.
1. Repair of cracks in the casing
After the operator finds that the battery casing is cracked or damaged, the epoxy resin with strong adhesion and good insulation performance is used for gluing. In the case of glue repair, first heat the crack to make it soft, then use a knife to clean the cracked surface, then insert the epoxy resin into the crack and flatten it. A piece of paper is attached to the surface after the flattening, and after 30 minutes, it is sent to an oven at 50 ° C to 60 ° C for about 2 hours to accelerate the hardening of the repaired portion. After removing the paper, use a file to flatten the surface.
2. Sealing glue rupture repair
After a period of use, the battery often has a phenomenon of leakage of electrolyte at the seal. In severe cases, cracks may occur. This failure is mainly caused by poor sealing or improper use of the sealant during manufacture. When this phenomenon is found, the shovel is used to clean the rupture site, and then re-cast with the sealant.
3. Generator battery terminal repair
The battery terminal results in long-term wear and burn, and then regrets to become thinner and smaller, resulting in poor contact between the clip and the terminal. The repair method of the terminal is: firstly, a model with the size of the binding post is placed on the binding post, and then the lead is turned into a liquid and poured into the model. After 2 minutes, the model can be removed.
4. Plate vulcanization repair
When the battery is in a state of discharge or semi-discharge for a long time, a white coarse-grained lead sulfate is formed on the plate, which cannot be completely reduced to lead dioxide and spongy lead during normal charging. This phenomenon is called lead sulfate hardening, referred to as vulcanization. The coarse-grained lead sulfate blocks the pores of the plates, making the electrolyte infiltration difficult, resulting in a decrease in battery capacity. When the diesel engine is started, the battery cannot provide normal use current, and the diesel engine cannot start normally.
5. Self-discharge maintenance
The phenomenon that a fully charged battery gradually loses its power when it is not used for a long time is called self-discharge. The causes of this phenomenon are: excessive impurities in the electrolyte, damage to the separator, electrolyte on the outside of the battery, electrolyte on the outside of the battery, and the active material falling off.
In order to prevent self-discharge of the battery, the external cleaning of the battery should be kept clean during use. The electrolyte must be prepared by mixing chemically pure sulfuric acid and distilled water. When the internal electrolyte of the battery is missing, the supplement must be distilled water.
6. Plate short circuit repair
When the diesel engine is started, the short-circuited cells in the battery are ejected with electrolyte. When charging such a battery, the temperature of the electrolyte is high, the specific gravity is low, and bubbles are generated. For such batteries, the plates must be removed and replaced or repaired.
