After the new or overhauled diesel generator set is put into normal operation, the surface of the part is not smooth because the engine parts are new or have been repaired and processed. If these parts are assembled and immediately operated under high temperature, high pressure, high speed and full load conditions, the moving parts will quickly wear out, which will shorten the service life of the diesel engine. Therefore, the newly installed or overhauled diesel generator sets must be run-in and commissioned after assembly.

By running-in, it can eliminate the rough surface formed when the parts are machined, reduce the unit pressure of the surface of the worn parts, and make the surface of the matched parts have better contact. At the same time, due to the wear of the parts, the parts are also eliminated during machining. The resulting geometric deviation. Therefore, after running-in, the wear resistance and corrosion resistance of the engine parts are enhanced.

Cold running-in

The so-called cold running-in means that the diesel engine is driven by the electric motor or other power on the test bench to achieve the purpose of running the crankshaft linkage mechanism, the valve train and other moving parts.

Cold running precautions

1 no injector

2 Use a small viscosity oil. The oil with low viscosity is easy to wash the metal chips that have been ground, and the friction surface has a good cooling effect.

3 Pay attention to check the operation: see if there are abnormal sounds, pull cylinders and air leaks. If it happens, stop the machine immediately and check the fault after cold running.

4 After the cold running, the engine oil is released, and the cleaning oil (90% diesel oil mixed with 10% oil) is added, and the mixture is operated for about 5 minutes, and then the mixed oil is released. Finally, remove the oil pan and oil filter for thorough cleaning.

5 Drive the electric motor crankshaft with a motor with a transmission. For diesel engines with rated speed of 1500r/min: 60min/min running, 60min; at 600r/min, 60min; during operation, engine oil pressure: not less than 1.2kgf/cm2; Not higher than 5kgf/cm2.

Hot running-in

Thermal running-in means that the diesel engine is installed, the machine is started up, and the engine is further inspected and adjusted by the no-load and load test, so that it has good power and economy.

Hot running precautions

1 Whether the valve clearance is proper.

2 The engine is running evenly.

3 Exhaust sound and color are normal.

4 Whether the oil pressure and cooling water temperature are normal.

5 The fuel injection pump and the injector are working properly.

6 Check for three leaks (oil leaks, water leaks and air leaks).

7 Check the assembly of the machine parts and the clearance between the fittings. 

8 pistons, piston pins, crankshaft main bearings and connecting rod bearings have special sound.

Before the heat is run, all the assemblies, accessories and instruments of the diesel engine should be installed to add fuel, oil and cooling water; all the necessary adjustments should be made: such as valve clearance, fan belt tightness, oil pressure, injection pressure, and supply. The oil time, the amount of oil supplied, and the uneven oil supply of each cylinder make the engine in good working condition.

Tag:For newly installed diesel generator sets or subject to equipment conditions after overhaul, thermal run-in can be performed directly without cold running. After the diesel generator set is run-in, the unit power and fuel consumption rate should be tested to prepare the quality of the unit.
